Do you love me?

Actualizado: 2 sept 2021

Once my father told me, “You will never know who you are until you know who is your father,” of course he said this with a different intention, but I could immediately hear the voice of God, telling me exactly that. Quite often we wonder what is our purpose or what are we meant to do, yet we fail to ask God what does He wants us to do. Frequently, some of us may not know what we want to do or what we truly desire and it is then when we start experimenting with things that perhaps we should have never done, due to this, we suffer, and suffer horribly, since we tried to satisfy our desires and emotional emptiness with things, vices or even trying to have people help us. Yet, it is here where we can see our Heavenly Father seeking us as prodigal children so we can find Him in His loving embrace.

John 1:12 (AMP)

12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—

Analysing what it means to hold a right, our Heavenly Father gave us the authority and privilege (just like the Amplified Bible explains) to be His children, as such, we can execute commands and decrees under His name. It may have been that some of us did not have a father figure present during our childhood, or maybe we had a father that did not know how to counsel us or protect us as we would have wished, or perhaps we simply did not have a paternal figure that could have guided us as ideally every child should have had, yet in these circumstances we can visualise and feel the perfect love of our Heavenly Father.

Psalm 27:10 (TPT)

10 My father and mother abandoned me. I’m like an orphan! But you took me in and made me yours.

So, what does this mean? That regardless of the mistakes our parents could have made, our Heavenly Father is always willing to pick us up in His arms, take care of us, protect us, provide for us, counsel us, and be there for us. The most beautiful thing about our Abba (it means Father in Aramaic) is that He is always willing to listen to us if we seek Him as our Father, for the moment we accept Him as a Father, we have a special bond with Him, that unites us to Him, since we are His children. Perhaps there could have been moments in our lives that we felt unprotected or even worse, fearful, but in those moments we must remember that when we allow God to be our Father, we have His protection. Just like Jesus said:

Matthew 26:53 (TPT)

53 Don’t you realize that I could ask my heavenly Father for angels to come at any time to deliver me? And instantly he would answer me by sending twelve armies of the angelic host to come and protect us.

The moment that God adopted us as His children, He also granted us the right to ask for His protection, to ask for His support, and for His help since we are under His domain. If hypothetically, someone had the right to claim an inheritance due to his or her family name, the instant that we became the adopted children of God, we acquire the right and benefit to seek Him as a Father, as a Dad, as a Daddy. And, even though some people might think Daddy is a childish title, if we think “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;” (Psalm 103:13), consequently, we know compassion is the feeling that allows us to feel empathy towards others and makes us want to help them; hence, He wants us to approach Him and seek Him for He wants to remove what makes us suffer or help us go through what burdens us, for He is a God of Love.

Therefore, what we need to know is what we need to do for God to take us in as His children, and that is to follow the commandments of Jesus, for only through Him, we get to know the true love of our Heavenly Father.

John 14:23 (TPT)

23 Jesus replied, “Loving me empowers you to obey my word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you and make you our dwelling place.

And if you have not accepted our Lord Jesus in your heart, I urge you to do it today and pray the following prayer out loud: “Lord Jesus, I ask you for forgiveness of my sins, for my sins separate me from you. I recognize you as my only, sufficient and truthful Saviour. I break every covenant with the world, with the flesh and with the enemy. I give you thanks for the sacrifice in the cross. I know if I were to die today, I will be in your arms. Amen.”
